             Safety is about responsibility, appropriateness, and common sense as well. It is our obligation to teach them what is acceptable and safe and what isn’t.  (15-20 mins)

How to Find a Podcast

Audio-Editing and Recording Software for Podcasting

As a podcaster, you record and edit audio all the time — it's what creating a podcast is all about, right? Useful audio recording and editing programs for Macs and PCs are readily available; here's a look at a few:

1- record your voice in audacity. Edit if needed.
2- save your file as an MP3 (if unable to do so, you may need to download a free MP3 encoder)
3- upload your MP3 voice file to archive.org
4- embed the coding into your blog site


Archive.org stores your podcasts and will give you the coding to embed the podcast into your blog

To simply record a podcast and save it without the need for editing, follow these simple steps:


·      Start an account at Podomatic.
·      When you are logged in to your account, from the drop-down menu under the Publish tab, select Podcast >Create.
·      Fill in a title of your choice.
·      Fill in a description of the content of the podcast. 
·      Click Save and Continue at bottom of screen.
·      Select Record using a microphone.
·      If you want to record in audio, be sure that the mic after the small speaker icon is the one that you intend to use.  (If you intend to use a different one, click on change and find the mic you want.  Then click Record and follow these steps:
o   If Adobe Flash Player Settings appears, click Allow and recording  begins immediately.  You can see if you are recording by looking at the thermometer type icon which shows the volume level
o   When done, click Stop.
o   Click Play to see if you like what you recorded.
o   Either click Record Again to start over or Save if you like your recording.
·      Uploading a photo is optional. You can click I don't want to upload a photo.  Skip this step.
·      Enter some tags for your episode AND select None or Clean.
·      Click Save and Continue at bottom of screen.
·      Click Save and Continue at bottom of next screen also to publish your episode.
·      Select Click this link to see if your episode has been published.
·      If your episode has been published, then click View episode page.
·      Click the arrow to play your episode in order to check that your recording is clear and audible before sharing the link with us.

*The URL that appears at the top of this page is the one you could post to your blog if you plan on setting up your own podcast 'station'.
** you can also get the coding to embed your podcast from Podomatic directly onto your blog site.

Tips for Preparing for a Podcast


  •   Take some time beforehand to prepare.

  •   Have an idea of the questions you want to ask in order to prompt comments/questions

  •   Avoid uninteresting and distracting silences 

  •  Have your questions follow a logical progression.
MP3 Compression for Podcasting




In order to broadcast your podcast, you may need to compress audio files. For MP3 files, use the suggested settings to make sure that your podcast gets transmitted loud and clear:


Bit rate: 128 Kbps (best quality for both voice and music)

Sample rate: 44.100 kHz / 44,100 Hz
